Artist Statement
I began playing with a camera and image making at a young age with intense periods of
formal photographic study along the way (RISD, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, ICP, and
numerous workshops). I’ve always loved feeling the weight of the camera, rolling the film
on the spool in the dark, observing what comes to light in the developing tray. I’ve always
revelled in the tensions between precision and chance, light and shadow, the visible and
invisible. Memory, myth, nostalgia, and mere beauty in the mundane compel me to
photograph and indeed frame my visual world.
As evident in the portfolios here, I enjoy various processes: from traditional gelatin silver
to Polaroid emulsion lifts, from 35 mm and medium format to the plastic cameras Holga
and Diana, and most recently, pinhole.
All images are signed and editioned in pencil au verso, and available in various sizes
